Twenty marteniza pannels made by Galabovo children under the traditional contest of AES Bulgaria

For eighth consecutive year AES Bulgaria organized a competition for original handmade martenitza, on the occasion of one of the most cherished customs in Bulgaria, Baba Marta. This competition is part of the AES Social Corporate Responsibility Program aiming to preserve the Bulgarian cultural identity and to encourage the development of skills and talents and of the kids in the region.

Every year, children from 3rd to 6th grade from all schools located in Galabovo Municipality participate in the AES’ contest. This year they made 20 wall martenitzas. After the committee voting, the winners were announced – the students from 3rd grade of 1st preliminary school “St. Paisii Hilendarski” in Galabovo, which received 4 out of 5 votes. The winner’s prize is a day-long trip to one of the 100 national tourist sites of Bulgaria by their choice. All other classes received an encouraging prize – cake with themed martenitza decoration.

Traditionally, AES Galabovo sends all martenitsi from the contest to the Bulgarian State Institutions with best wishes for good health, good luck and prosperity. This initiative is part of the corporate social responsibility program of our company, focused on the one hand for the preservation of the Bulgarian cultural identity, and on the other to promote the skills, talent and development of the youth in the region.
