The most modern coal-fired power plant in Bulgaria reached an average desulfurization efficiency rate of over 97%

For the period January – June 2020, TPP AES Galabovo has produced more than 1 283 200 MWh of electricity. The electricity generated by the most modern coal power plant in Bulgaria represents 7% of the total consumption in the country for the above period, which equals 18 454 376 MWh. This shows an analysis of the production results of TPP AES Galabovo for the first half of the year. The amount produced from the two units of the 690-MW capacity is in full sync with the needs of the Bulgarian energy system and the submitted dispatching schedules. During the first two months of the state of emergency in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TPP AES Galabovo created the necessary organization to continue its work and ensure Bulgaria’s energy security.

In the six months of 2020, as the most high-tech coal-fired power plant in the country, TPP AES Galabovo provided the full range of services for balancing and real-time management of the static and dynamic stability of the Bulgarian energy system. Thanks to its technological flexibility, the most modern coal-fired power plant helps Bulgaria meet the ENTSO-E requirements for primary control regulation. All this once again shows the key importance of TPP AES Galabovo for the energy system of Bulgaria.

In the first 6 months of 2020, the power plant used nearly 2,260 million tons of lignite coal from the Maritza East basin. By using coal from Maritza East Mines, TPP AES Galabovo contributes to Bulgaria’s energy independence and guarantees employment for thousands of miners at the biggest state-owned mines in the country.

As a result of the responsible attitude toward the environment and the installed modern technologies, for the period January – June 2020 the most environment-friendly coal-fired power plant in Bulgaria reached an average desulfurization efficiency rate of over 97%. For the same period, TPP AES Galabovo has used 180 200 tons of limestone necessary for the desulfurization process.
