St. Nikola Wind Farm sets a record in wind power generation in January 2022

February 7, 2022

In January 2022, St. Nikola Wind Farm has set a record in its monthly wind power output. The largest wind farm in Bulgaria produced nearly 55,500 MWh of renewable energy in the first month of the year. This is the largest amount of electricity generated by the wind turbines of the farm since its commissioning in 2010, and it is equal to the average monthly consumption of 185,000 Bulgarian households. In other words, thanks to the operation of St. Nikola Wind Farm, households in an area the size of Varna used in January 2022 solely green power, contributing to curbing climate change.

In the first month of 2022, TPP AES Galabovo provided over 8% of the electricity consumed in the country. In the cold winter days of January, the most modern coal-fired power plant provided 337,520 MWh, which represents an increase of 11% compared to January 2021. This amount equals the average monthly consumption of more than 1.1 million Bulgarian households.

In January 2022, St. Nikola Wind Farm and TPP AES Galabovo generated 10% of the electricity consumed in Bulgaria. Thus, one in ten kilowatt hours of electricity in the country in January was provided by the power plants of AES Bulgaria. This shows once again the essential role St. Nikola Wind Farm and TPP AES Galabovo play for the energy security of the country and the stability of the energy system.
