St. Nikola Wind Farm marks a record-breaking November output

The St. Nikola wind farm achieved a new monthly record. The largest wind farm in Bulgaria finished November with a production record, as the turbines of AES Bulgaria's wind park generated 42,006 MWh of green electricity for Bulgarian consumers. This is the wind farm’s highest output for a month of November since the park was commissioned in 2010. The St. Nikola wind farm’s output in the past month was over 40% more than in the same month in 2022.

St. Nikola wind farm also registered the highest generation year to date since the commissioning of the plant in 2010, with a cumulative production of 330,195 MWh since the beginning of the year, thanks to the peak monthly generations this year. If the current trend continues in December, 2023 is expected to be the farm's most productive year since its commissioning.

The St. Nikola wind farm is a crucial step toward Bulgaria’s objective of a greener energy future, significantly increasing the country’s RES generation potential.  The wind farm, located near Kavarna, has a total capacity of 156 MW. St. Nikola wind farm is at the core of the established Integrated Early Warning System for bird protection. It complies with the European wild bird conservation requirements and was crucial for the Bern Convention Standing Committee’s decision to close the Kaliakra case at the end of 2022. With this ruling, Strasbourg acknowledged that wind farms in the region are safe for biodiversity.
