Bulgaria's thermal power plant (TPP) AES Galabovo has produced 3.14 million MWh of electricity in 2019, up by an annual 5.5%, AES Bulgaria said on Thursday.

TPP AES Galabovo's power output was equal to around 8.3% of the total electricity consumption on the domestic market last year, AES Bulgaria said in a statement.

The power plant used some 5.37 million tonnes of coal produced by local Maritsa East Mines last year, 3.3% more than in 2018.

In 1999, a unit of U.S.-based energy conglomerate AES Corporation purchased the majority interest in Bulgaria's Maritsa East 1 project, subsequently renamed AES Galabovo in 2009. AES completed the full acquisition of the 600 MW thermal power plant from Ireland's Consolidated Continental Commerce Limited (3C) in 2005.
