June 3, 2022

AES’ TPP in Galabovo has set a new output record. In May 2022, the power plant generated 38% more energy compared to the same month last year. This has been the highest monthly generation for the month of May since the commissioning of the power plant to date, an output analysis of Bulgaria’s most modern coal-fired TPP shows. The power plant provided 345 029 MWh of energy to Bulgarian households in May 2022. This means that every tenth kWh of electricity consumed in Bulgaria was produced by the two units of AES’ TPP in Galabovo. This is reliable energy generated by Bulgarian energy resources. AES’ TPP in Galabovo operates only with local lignite coal and in 2021, it purchased around 21% of the coal mined at the state-owned Mini Maritza East. This guarantees not only Bulgaria’s energy security but also the jobs for thousands of miners.

AES’ TPP in Galabovo and St. Nikola Wind Farm provided 11% of the total energy consumed in the country in May 2022. Last month, the largest wind farm generated around 15 500 MWh of green energy which equals the average monthly consumption of about 45 000 Bulgarian households.
