February 9, 2015

AES Galabovo has once again become part of the celebrations for St. Tryphon the Trimmer’s Day in the village of Aprilovo, Galabovo municipality. For the fifth consecutive year the traditional festivities for the holiday, known as Vine-Growers’ Day, were held with the financial support of the company. The event was hosted by Aprilovo mayor Ivan Zhelyazkov and St. Tryphon the Trimmer Club, chaired by Nikolay Filipov. The holiday gathered together municipal councilors, the administration of Galabovo municipality, guests and residents of Aprilovo.

The holiday started at 10 a.m. in the center of the village to the accompaniment of a combined folk music orchestra from South Bulgaria. The traditional vine pruning ceremony was performed for the first time in the vineyard of club chairman Nikolay Filipov. The mayor of Galabovo municipality, Nikolay Tonev, cut off the first three vine branches and wished health and rich harvest to vine-growers in the region.

Later in the day the celebrations continued in the ritual hall in the village, where a Vine King was chosen and “crowned” with a vine wreath. A congratulatory address of AES Galabovo to Aprilovo mayor and to St. Tryphon the Trimmer Club’s chairman was also read.

The holiday continued with a presentation of home-made wines by local producers and the traditional competition for best white and red wines, which this year were assessed by technologist Zlatko Aladzhov. The first place for best white wine was won by the deputy chairman of the Wine-Makers’ Club in Galabovo, Petar Petrov, while the award for best red wine went to Doncho Mihaylov from St Tryphon the Trimmer Club. The celebrations continued the whole day with a lot of music, dancing and merry-making.

St. Tryphon’s Day will also be celebrated in the village of Obrushishte at the end of this week. AES Galabovo will again support the event by providing treats for some 200 people. There too the traditional vine pruning ceremony will be performed and a Vine King will be chosen.
