400 children of Galabovo made unique martenitzas in AES Bulgaria organized competition

March 1, 2024

In this year's AES Bulgaria traditional martenitza competition, more than 400 students from Galabovo and Obruchishte schools created their own martenitzas. The company is organizing the Baba Marta art contest for the 16th year in a row.

Students from 1st to 4th grade of the schools ‘Vasil Levski’, ‘St. Paisii Hilendarski, ‘Hristo Botev’ in Galabovo and ‘St. Kiril and Metodii’ in the village of Obruchishte participated in the competition. Traditionally, AES Bulgaria provided all the materials, wool, beads, and other decorative elements needed for the martenitzas. The children's imagination and talent once again made it tough for the panel to evaluate the March masterpieces. The martenitza created by students of primary school ‘Hristo Botev’ won the competition. Each school that entered the competition received a video camera as a present to use for capturing school events and initiatives. And, because a party isn't complete without a treat, all of the children were given treats for their creativity, devotion, and effort.

Traditionally, AES Bulgaria presented the President, Prime Minister, and other heads of state institutions with martenitzas crafted by Galabovo children, wishing them good health and prosperity.

More than 6200 children from Galabovo's schools have participated in the Baba Marta contest for sixteen years. The art initiative is part of AES Bulgaria's corporate social responsibility program, and it aims to preserve Bulgarian traditions and customs while also promoting children's creative talents.
